My Pisay
i am a proud philippine science high school alumna.
admittedly, i was forced by my parents to go there. and yes, even though i seemed to have lots of fun in high school, i kinda hated it. but i suspect the “hate” was really just hormones and teenage angst. but looking back, i’m glad i went to pisay.
my non-pisay friends get baffled when i don’t need a calculator to solve simple arithmetic or when i say random science-y things. and yes, that is all because of my high school.

the front lobby – the hang out. countless homework and lab reports were crammed in this historic place
i had gone from a sheltered catholic all-girls’ school to pisay confident i was one of the best but when i got to high school, i was humbled by the sheer brilliance of the people i went to school with.
pisay is a special place where independence, curiosity and discovery are nurtured and questions are encouraged. it is also a place where talent is overflowing. pisay has taught me to constantly look for answers to questions and also to find my own way of answering it. if there is one thing that i always remember about pisay is the teachers always telling you that “there are many ways to kill the cat”.
pisay is also a magical place because this is where i met my closest friends. to this day, my high school friends are special and dear to me. they’re like the sisters i never had.
i remember the day ms serrano, then registrar, asked me what i wanted to be when i grew up. knowing full well i had to answer something towards the science and technology side of things, i answered “i want to be a marine biologist”. but look at where i am now.
and i am proud to be among the ranks of leaders from various industries who excelled not only in the sciences but also in the fields of journalism, literature, business and the arts – economist cielito habito, educator rey vea, globe/ayala executive gil genio, noted writer butch dalisay, pop culture icon jessica zafra, award-winning filmmaker auraeus solito, environmentalist luis tupas, former AFP chief of staff hermogenes esperon, among countless others.

the first floor science lab area – yes, great memories noh? includes witnessing random MOMOL moments c/o batch 94! LOL
in 2014, the philippine science high school, the premiere high school in the country, will celebrate its 50th founding year and the faculty, administrators and alumni are holding a 50@50 fundraiser aiming to raise PhP50 million to rehabilitate and upgrade the facilities. to continue to provide world-class education to the scholars, pisay should have world-class facilities.
for such a young nation like ours, science and technology education should be given utmost support. for the alumni, i think it’s time we give back to our alma mater. if you believe in this, please take some time to go to this link.
